Here’s a glimpse of TDC24 by introducing some of the filmmakers attending this year: Grace Song (Singapore) Razan Alsoghayer (Saudi Arabia), Rani Messias (Brazil).

Grace Song is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker from Singapore. She’ll be joining the Directing Department of the TDC24 CineCampus taking place in the new location of Syracuse and Ortygia.
1) How did you find out about the CineCampus and why have you decided to apply?
I found out through a link sent to me from a previous collaborator (cinematographer)! We shot a short film on 16mm together and after that, I wanted to learn the process of shooting on 35mm.
2) What can you tell us about the script you’ve submitted to the CineCampus?
As scripts evolve and change through thought processes and time, I hope the script I wrote will reflect experimentation both narratively and cinematically. Partly because I don’t know what to expect from the shooting process (in a good way), I try to give myself as many variables to play with.
3) How do you feel about the idea of shooting on film?
Like a true magician!

Razan AlSoghayer is a Saudi filmmaker with a bachelor’s degree in media and communication from King Faisal University. She studied filmmaking in La Femis in Paris, and the British Film Institute in the UK. She will be joining the 2024 Directing Department of the CineCampus.
1) How did you find out about the CineCampus and why have you decided to apply?
Through a friend. My friend told me that they had the best experience of their lives, and as a 35mm lover, it cannot get better than this.
2) What can you tell us about the script you’ve submitted to the CineCampus?
It follows the story of two artists, getting back to being a film student this year, with many deadlines, this has made me realize the bonds we make are whats important in the journey.
3) How do you feel about the idea of shooting on film?
It gives me goosebumps and makes me re-consider every decision I take and puts the whole team more in sync than they already are.

Rani Messias is a Brazilian filmmaker based between Rio and Berlin, where she got her Bachelors in Practical Filmmaking from MET Film School. Specialised in Directing and Production Design, but also being a screenwriter, she’ll be joining the Directing Department of the 2024 CineCampus.
1) How did you find out about the CineCampus and why have you decided to apply?
I found out about Terre di Cinema via two cinematographer friends who both have a technical and artistic approach to their work, and have recommended it to me. The opportunity to shoot on 35mm while having the appropriate instruction and production team, who are all on the same boat, felt like the experience that has been missing on my trajectory, as indeed, shooting on film makes a difference.
2) What can you tell us about the script you’ve submitted to the CineCampus?
I have submitted a script that is based on the local cosmology and invisible landscape of the Italian land we are shooting on. This practice is a part of my overall body of work, and I’m excited to visualize these often invisible tales through the means of film.
3) How do you feel about the idea of shooting on film?
In a world of constantly evolving technology and film tech, where the discussion is now leading into the dangers and applications of things like A.I, shooting on film feels like the spiritual approach to filmmaking. If you wish to truly learn something, it’s important to always go back to the source – akin to how in a village, people will sit by the elders to learn from their ancestry, like this I feel about learning to shoot on 35mm as a millennial filmmaker.
