Manuel Alberto Claro to open TDC15//Manuel Alberto Claro aprirà TDC15.

Cinematographer for Lars von Trier’s Melancholia (2011) and Nymphomaniac (2013), Manuel Alberto Claro (DFF) was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1970. His family moved to Denmark in 1974, after the Pinochet coup. Having graduated from the European Design Institute (IED), Milan, he worked in his twenties as a photographer’s assistant in Copenhagen and New York.

At age 27, he studied cinematography at the Danish National Film School. His second feature as cinematographer, Reconstruction (Christoffer Boe, 2003), gained the Caméra d’Or at Cannes, and Claro’s career has gone from strength to strength. Melancholia won the award for Best film at the 2011 European Film Awards, with Claro taking the cinematography prize.  Melancholia was also nominated for Best Cinematography at 2011 Camerimage.

This year we will celebrate the visions of Manuel Alberto Claro, our public and the students of the CineCampus will have the chance to meet and learn from such a fantastic cinematographer on the opening days of TDC15.

Autore della fotografia di Melancholia (2011) e Nymphomaniac (2013) di Lars Von Trier, Manuel Alberto Claro (DFF) è nato a Santiago, Cile, nel 1970.  La sua famiglia si trasferì in Danimarca nel 1974, dopo il colpo di stato di Pinochet. Diplomatosi all’Istituto Europeo del Design di Milano, inizia la sua carriera lavorando come assistente fotografo tra Copenhagen e New York.

A 27 anni decide di studiare Fotografia cinematografica (cinematografia) alla Danish National Film School.  Il suo secondo lungometraggio come direttore della fotografia, Reconstruction, (Christoffer Boe, 2003), gli vale il Caméra d’Or a Cannes, lanciando la sua carriera.  Melancholia ha vinto il premio come miglior film agli European Film Awards nel 2011, con Claro premiato anche per la miglior fotografia.  Melancholia ha anche ricevuto una nomination come miglior fotografia a Camerimage (2011).

Quest’anno celebreremo le immagini di Manuel Alberto Claro, il nostro pubblico e gli studenti del CineCampus avranno l’occasione di conoscerlo ed imparare dalla sua arte nei giorni di apertura di TDC15.
