Olympia Mytilinaiou (GSC) sarà a Terre di Cinema giovedì 26 giugno con la masterclass e la proiezione del film Miss Violence. Olympia Mytilinaiou (GSC) will be at Terre di Cinema on thursday june 26th with a masterclass and the screening of the film Miss Violence.

Olympia Mytilinaiou nasce a Litohoro-Pierias, Grecia, nel 1967.

Si diploma nel 1993 alla Scuola di Cinema & TV Lykourgos Stavrakos, Dipartimento di cinematografia. I primi passi nel mondo del cinema avvengono con la realizzazione dei cortometraggi Tecniko Gegonos (1993) e Proti fora (1995), entrambi diretti da Stathis Plotas.
Tra il 1997 e il 1998, gira due documentari, Empty Nets (1997), diretto da Avra Georgiou, e Ideologia ston Archaio Kosmo (1998), di Maria Powel.
Nel 1999, Mytilinaiou partecipa alla realizzazione di diversi corti, tra i quali Tou kanenos to rodo (1999), di Tzortzina Serpieri, e I Ivana ston paradeiso (1999), diretto da Nikos Fousekis. Il ’99 è anche l’anno in cui Mytilinaiou gira il suo primo lungometraggio, 17 sta 18 (2000), diretto da Mimis Kougioumtzis e scritto in collaborazione con Alexandros Grammatopoulos. Seguono Avrio tha ‘nai arga (2002), di Lagia Giourgou, e Sto vazo (2003), diretto da Giannis Paraskevopoulos.

Nei primi anni 2000, Mytilinaiou si cimenta con la video arte, firmando la fotografia di Suicide. A mind game for girls (2004) e What women think about (2004), di Memi Koupa, e Dream (2005), insieme alla già nota Avra Georgiou.
La collaborazione con Koupa continua sui set di Black Box (2008), cortometraggio basato su una storia scritta da Stavros Karelis, e Greek wines (2010), viaggio-documentario, sul tema del vino, per il circuito televisivo nazionale greco. Le sue sperimentazioni continuano, nel 2007, con In 10 years, kokalis foundation (2007) e Easy crouse (2007), manifestazioni artistiche alle quali Mytilinaiou collabora in veste di lightining designer.
Nel 2009, gira Strella (2009), diretto da Panos H. Koutras, che partecipa a numerosi festival internazionali e si guadagna il premio nella sezione Panorama del Festival di Berlino e una nomination agli European Film Awards. Lo stesso film è premiato, nel 2010, dall’Hellenic Film Academy per la miglior attrice protagonista e la miglior scenografia.
Tra il 2010 e il 2011, Mytilinaiou lavora alla realizzazione di 4ever (2011), di George Pyrpasopoulos, vincitore di un premio al London Greek Film Festival, e David is Dying (2011), diretto da Steven Loyd Jackson, vincitore del Grand Jury Prize all’American Black Film Festival (miglior regia e miglior attore protagonista).
L’anno 2012 vede Mytilinaiou impegnata come autrice della fotografia di quattro cortometraggi: Desmos (2012), di Sasa Aggelidi, It’s ok my friend (2012), diretto da Markopoulou Giolanda, 7:15 (2012), di Rafika Chawishe e Le gardien de son frère (2012), del regista francese Basile Doganis. Tutti e quattro i cortometraggi vengono selezionati e proiettati in numerosi festival internazionali tra cui il Festival d’Angers, l’Athens International Film Festival, il Festival Tous Courts di Aix-en-Provence, ed il Festival di Cannes.

Il 2013 è l’anno di Miss Violence (2013), lungometraggio diretto da Alexandros Avranas, presentato in anteprima a Venezia, dove ottiene ben 4 premi di categoria (Young Cinema Award – Miglior Film, Miglior Regia, Coppa Volpi) ed il Leone d’Argento 2013. Miss Violence viene anche premiato al Montréal Festival of New Cinema con l‘Innovation Award, ed allo Stockholm International Film Festival (Migliore Sceneggiatura). Ottiene inoltre una nomination come Miglior Film al São Paulo International Film Festival.
Nel 2014, insieme al regista Avra Georgious, gira il documentario Dollars for a Saint (2014), presentato in anteprima al Thessaloniki International Film Festival.

Young Cinema Award – Best Film in competition, Best Euro-mediterranean Award, Best Director, Best Actor – and a nominee for the Golden Lion. Miss Violence also wins the Innovation Award at the Montréal Festival of New Cinema ( and a nomination for the Louve d’Or) ,and it is awarded (Best screenplay) and nominated (Best Feature Film) respectively at theStockholm Film Festival the São Paulo International Film Festival.

Olympia was born in Litohoro-Pierias, Greece, in 1967.

In 2009, she shoots Strella (2009), directed by Panos H. Koutras, a film awarded in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival and nominated for the European Film Awards. Strella is also a two-awards winner of the Hellenic Film Academy (2010).

Between 2010 and 2011, Mytilinaiou works on 4ever (2011), directed by George Pyrpasopoulos, that wins an award at the London Greek Film Festival, and on David is Dying (2011), directed by Steven Loyd Jackson, a winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Best Director and Best Actor at the American Black Film Festival.
